The Great Football Fundraising Event

We are a group of people working in advertising and media going on a trip to Tanzania to go and give footballs to children in some of the poorest and most remote areas of the country.
In order to raise funds for the footballs, we are organising an event which should be of interest to the marketing industry, taking place on Wednesday 27th October in the evening in central London at The City Tavern (By St Paul’s).

It’s an opportunity to mingle and network with a number of industry professionals in a relaxed pub atmosphere and listen to African music as well as several talk from people developing interesting projects leveraging digital technologies and empowering communities for social good.


Neil Perkin: Previously digital strategy and marketing director for IPC Media, Neil is now running his own consultancy, Only Dead Fish. Neil is a popular blogger and regularly speaks at a number of marketing events. He is also leading the charge in the Tanzania project for The Great Football Giveaway.

Hugh Garry: Hugh is an experienced media professional working for BBC Radio 1, developing innovative digital projects in the areas of audio and music. He will be telling us about a project developed to sends donations to charities based on feelings of guilt, and the things he personally feels guilty about.

Mills: Mills is the co-founder of UsTwo, an interactive creative studio specialised in designing original mobile interfaces, applications and experiences. He will be telling us about a new mobile application UsTwo are designing for The Kids Company and about their experience of working with the charity.

We are going on this trip to Tanzania with a charity called The Great Football Giveaway, and as many other charities today, are actively leveraging social media technologies to reach new audiences and keep in contact with the community supporting their projects. During our trip, we will be writing messages on the footballs for the people donating, as well as documenting our trip and posting the content online so we can share the experience with every single person who supported us.

Each football we are giving to children in Tanzania costs £10, so we will be asking for a minimum donation of £10 at the door. We would love to have you there, if you can make it, please confirm so on the Eventbrite page mentioned below.
